Four children members of the Fourways Martial Arts Academy were chosen to represent South Africa at the 6th Junior & Cadet World Championship + World Cup for Children in Novo mesto Slovenia which took place between the 24th – 26th of October 2008.

They had been preparing for the Championships since the beginning of the year and were part of a 42 children team representing South Africa. Under the expert instruction of Sensei Roberta Biagioni they were able to represent club and country at the world championship and all brought back medals.

Once again I would like to thank every one for a wonderful day at the Interschool Karate Championship. This was by far one of the nicest events that we had for a while.

I received plenty of compliments, especially the fact that we ran on time and finished on time.

The ISMAA 2008 Championship took place at the Sisulu Hall, in Randburg, on the 20 of September 2008.

A total of 245 karateka participated in the events. At least another 300 people were there to cheer and encourage the participants.
A very large number of photos were taken, and these are attached under four groupings, Podium, Kata , Kumite and Cheese and Wine.

Once again a very great thank you to all the organisers, referees, judges, competitors and supporters that helped to make these Championships a success!"

The GKI Summer Gasshuku in 2008 took place in the city of Maia, near Oporto, in Portugal, from the 26th to the 29th of June. It was hosted by the Clube de Karate da Maia (CKM), duly supported by the Associacao Kenkyukai Karate de Portugal (AKKP), and the Maia City Council.

Dear Sensei Stef

Congratulations on your selection to the National team to represent South Africa at the all African Games.  I understand you already have a position national squad.   It is most encouraging to you and our younger karate-ka, having the opportunity to apply your specialized training, with your interest in competition karate you will surely have a pleasant learning experience and eventually pass this on  to  our juniors at the Academy in the future.

Dear Sensei's Richard Buckley, Jorge Pinto

Your long years of study, practice, and teaching Goju Ryu Karate has finally got you a 6th Dan degree Black Belt at the Academy, My hearty congratulations on an honour that does not come easily. Rokudan will certainly enhance your opportunities for teaching, also Wilma Du Plooy for obtaining her Shodan.
